Acceptable Use Policy
Last updated: August 2026
Sylvia API exists to give developers a clean way to read public Reddit data.
We want every user to use it well. This policy sets the rules. By using the
service, you agree to follow them.
1. The short version
Use the service for lawful work only. Do not attack our servers. Do not spam
people. Do not resell raw data. Do not fake engagement. If you break these
rules, we can suspend your account without notice.
The rest of this page explains those rules in detail.
2. Prohibited activities
You may not use the service to do any of the following.
Attacks and abuse of our systems
- Launch denial-of-service attacks or send traffic that overloads us.
- Try to bypass or defeat rate limits.
- Probe, scan, or reverse-engineer the service.
Harm to others
- Send spam or unsolicited mass messages using data you read through the API.
- Harass, threaten, or defraud anyone.
- Publish personal data of individuals in a way that breaks privacy law.
Fraud and manipulation
- Impersonate people or companies.
- Run phishing or malware campaigns.
- Create fake accounts or deceptive content at scale.
- Manufacture fake engagement. That means fake upvotes, fake reviews, or
coordinated inauthentic behavior.
Unfair commercial use
- Resell or redistribute raw API output as a competing service without our
written approval. - Scrape or harvest our API in bulk to build a clone of it.
Legal violations
- Break any law that applies to you.
- Break the terms of a third party whose data you read through our API. That
includes Reddit's own terms.
3. What we do about violations
If we find prohibited activity, we can take any of these steps, without notice:
- Suspend or terminate your account.
- Revoke your API keys.
- Block your traffic.
- Report the activity to law enforcement or to the affected third party.
We are not liable for these steps. If your account is suspended and you think
we made a mistake, write to us and we will review it.
4. Report misuse
If you see misuse or suspicious activity, tell us at
[email protected]. We read every report.
